What is BlastCubicle?
BlastCubicle is a modular steel structure
made of light gauge steel components. It is
designed to protect personnel and equipment
from short stand-off blasts and scattered
small arms fire. Guard houses, equipment huts,
living quarters or maintenance facilities
are some uses for which Blast Cubicle is designed;
however, it can be utilized in most any situation
where military threats or terrorist activities
are likely.
BlastCubicle
has its origins in sister company Remagen
Safe Rooms’ Closet Vaults and Storm
Closets. These storm closets were designed
to provide protection from the effects of
hurricanes and tornadoes. Safe rooms have
been in use for many years and have under
gone extensive testing - proving their ability
to provide a safe haven in 250 mph winds.
BlastCubicle builds upon
the basic design of Closet Vault and Storm
Closet by putting sand or granular earth fill
in the walls. The addition of sand into the
walls increases the dampening factor and produces
internal mass resistance to blast-induced
accelerations. The use of visco-elastic structural
adhesive between the exterior and interior
skins of the composite blast wall creates
a ductile wall that has outstanding dynamic
response characteristics, thus improving the
structural performance of the blast walls.
Blast Cubicle has been subjected to a blast
of 50 lbs of TNT at 20 ft and did not suffer
any significant damage.
